It’s that time of the year … The EAE Fall Showcase is nigh! It’s a great opportunity for everyone in the program to show off their work, and it’s a great opportunity for those outside of the program to come and see all the fabulous work we’ve been doing.
For our game, to be honest, we’re in a little bit of an awkward spot. We just made a fairly large pivot in terms of our artistic direction, and that means we don’t have an enormous number of finished art assets in the game to show off. But we’ve come to terms with that … if it needs to be white-box, it will be white-box.
Our previous art-theme was a hybrid of Candyland and Wreck-It-Ralph, but given our target audience and platform (younger male demographic on Steam), we decided against doing that. The artistic theme and the gameplay did not really mesh, and many of our assets looked probably a little too similar to what was in the Wreck-It-Ralph game Sugar Rush.
Our new direction takes inspiration from the state in which we study. We’re incorporating the beautiful aesthetic of the southwest into our game, looking at the canyons and hoodoos that characterize southern Utah. Take a look at our media page to see some of these inspirations!
